Metromover Extension To The Design District: Here’s Exactly Where Every New Station Is Proposed

Miami’s Metromover will be extended to Wynwood, Midtown Miami, and the Design District as part of a plan approved by Miami-Dade’s Transportation Planning Organization last year.

Six new Metromover stations are planned on the mainland as part of the Beach Corridor project (despite its name), according to a study approved by the TPO’s board.

The extension will start from the Metromover’s current School Board station, the plans show.

From there, it will run in a straight line up North Miami Avenue.

The six stops tentatively planned along North Miami Avenue are at:

  • 16th Street
  • 22nd Street
  • 26th Street
  • 34th Street
  • 39th Street
  • 40th Street

A potential connection from the Metromover to a new commuter rail station planned on the Brightline tracks is possible in either Midtown or the Design District.

Commissioners have already approved a group that includes Meridiam and Genting to build the cross-bay portion of the Beach Corridor using monorail technology. Bids have not yet been solicited for the Metrorail portion.

The Beach Corridor is one of six planned as part of Miami-Dade’s Smart Plan.
