Miami football legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson card sells for $45,000

On Superbowl Sunday, the Miami football card for Hurricanes legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson sold at an auction for $45,000. In a caption posted to his social media accounts, Johnson was humbled by the sale. Johnson played at Miami in the early 1990s and was a backup defensive tackle on the 1991 National Championship team.

Following a short stint with the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League, Johnson became one of the biggest stars in the World Wrestling Federation. According to Entertainment Weekly, 50 bids were made on Johnson’s card. A 1994 Miami Bumble Bee Perforated Dwayne Johnson PSA 10 is what sold.

Despite making a slight impact on the Orange Bowl turf, Johnson is one of the most iconic players in the history of the Miami football program. He the most famous Miami football player ever. After retiring from WWF (now known as WWE) Johnson has become the highest-paid actor in 2019 making $89.4 million.

Last August, Johnson and his business partners, ex-wife and fellow Miami alum Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale bought the XFL for $15 million. Johnson and his partners bought the XFL out of bankruptcy from WWE owner Vince McMahon last August. McMahon had invested $200 million into the 2020 version of the XFL

Johnson comes from a family of wrestlers. His early life will be a TV Series debuting on NBC on Tuesday night starting Johnson as the current version of himself with younger actors playing the earlier years. According to the Associated Press“Young Rock” is structured around Johnson’s depiction as a 2032 presidential candidate.”

Johnson’s father Rocky died from a heart attack last year caused by a blood clot. He was a part of the first all-black tag team wrestling champions. Johnson’s maternal grandfather Peter Maivia was also a championship wrestler. Johnson has three daughters. His eldest with Garcia, Simone is the latest wrestler in the family.
