Miami Heat player buys mansion for $8M

Miami Heat center Meyers Leonard and his wife, Elle Leonard, bought a mansion along the water in Miami’s Bay Point neighborhood for $7.78 million.

The 6,819-square-foot home, at 741 Buttonwood Lane, was sold by 741 Buttonwood LLC, managed by Lior Ben-Shmuel, to the Meyers and Elle Leonard Joint Florida Trust. The price equated to $1,140 a square foot.

The home last traded for $3.89 million in 2013, so it nearly doubled in value. It was built in 1996 on the 18,847-square-foot site, which is along a canal leading to the Intracoastal Waterway.

It has seven bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms, marble floors, a pool and a dock with a boat lift.

The 7-foot-tall Leonard was a star at the University of Illinois before being drafted in the first round by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2012. The Miami Heat obtained him via trade in July 2019. He helped the Heat reach the 2020 NBA Finals. Leonard re-signed with the Heat in a one-year, $9.4 million deal. However, he injured his shoulder on Jan. 9 and is expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery. He’ll be a free agent this summer.

In 2019, Leonard and his wife launched Level Foods, a company that sells protein bars. She’s the CEO.

This is the latest big-money home sale in Bay Point, as the neighborhood attracts more wealthy buyers.
