Three young siblings died from injuries suffered in an early Saturday morning house fire in Miami County.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Tony Slocum said 6-year-old Miracle Gingerich, 5-year-old Steven Gingerich and 1-year-old Wilma Gingerich were trapped inside their home in the 13000 block of South County Road 300 East.
Slocum said their mother, Laura Gingerich, called 911 around 10:50 a.m. Saturday to report that her children were in the burning residence. Firefighters that arrived shortly after 11 a.m. found the children in a second-floor room that contained heavy smoke.
The children were all found unconscious and not breathing, Slocum said. Miracle was taken to a Kokomo hospital, while Steven and Wilma were taken to a Peru hospital.
“Unfortunately, all three children died at the hospital,” Slocum said in a statement. “Early evidence indicates that Laura Gingerich was in a downstairs bathroom while the children were in a second-floor room. Laura Gingerich smelled smoke and tried to get to her children.”
