Do you throw salt over your shoulder when you spill the salt? Do you believe in lucky pennies? How about when a black cat crosses your path? Do you knock on wood?

If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, you might be superstitious… and you’re not alone.

A report on luck, released by a place where you want nothing but good luck, a casino, revealed that 65% of Americans are superstitious.

However, there’s a big divide when it comes to belief in good luck versus bad luck. with 83% of people saying they believe in good luck while only 50% believe in bad luck.

The report stated:

However, once we asked about specific lucky and unlucky days, responses were pretty evenly matched. For example, 37% say they believe Friday the 13th is an unlucky day while 34% feel St. Patrick’s Day is a lucky day. Even though one-third believe St. Patrick’s Day brings good luck, nearly double that amount (60%) say they wear green on St. Patrick’s Day. Either that extra 24% actually believe wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day brings good luck and don’t want to admit it, or they’re just trying to avoid getting pinched.”

The report, released by Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in Wisconsin, analyzed 200 different superstitions by surveying 1,000 people across all 50 states plus Washington, D.C.

Throwing salt over your shoulder, was the most common superstition, taking the top spot in 17 states. Believing that bad luck comes in threes is the second most popular superstition, coming in at number one in six states.
