Anthony Bourdain-Favorite Bonci Pizza Debuts in Wynwood

Gabriele Bonci, the man behind Roman pizza powerhouse Pizzariuma favorite of the late Anthony Bourdain—has opened his namesake Bonci Pizza (pronounced bahn-chi) in Wynwood. This marks the second city that the counter-service restaurant has presence in the United States following a location in Chicago that opened in 2017.

Bonci is widely credited for putting Roman pizza on the worldwide culinary map. In 2003 he debuted Pizzarium in Rome right by the Vatican walls that has developed a cult following and long lines over the past two decades. The restaurant, just like his Miami outpost, serves pizza al taglio aka pizza that is served in cast-iron trays, cut by scissor, and sold by the pound.

At Bonci the dough is made by a blend of stone ground flours produced in Italy that take three days to rise. Each day the chef offers new flavors with some available only a year. Popular daily selections include pizzas topped with meatball, sopressata, zucchini ricotta lemon black pepper, and potato mozzarella. In addition to the pizzas the menu features items like antipasto, mixed greens salad, and caprese, with plans to include more dishes that are representative of Miami in the near future.

Bonci Pizza is located at 232 NW 24th Street in Wynwood. It is open from Sunday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information visit here.
