JUPITER, Fla. — Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Jupiter Police are investigating a boat fire at the Square Grouper Boat Ramp in Jupiter.
The first calls came in just before 3 a.m. Tuesday.
The battalion chief said one boat was engulfed and it took about 20 minutes to put out the flames. Other boats had to be moved so the fire did not spread.
“If we wouldn’t have gotten the call when we did, there’s always the possibility that it could have spread to other vessels,” said battalion chief, Phillip Olavarria.
However, a neighboring boat suffered some minor damage.
“My windows got shattered, paint got blistered, luckily it didn’t catch on fire,” said Howard Tuttle, boater and fisherman.
“It’s really scary I mean that’s my livelihood that’s how I support my family,” he added.
No one was on the boat or injured, according to officials.
The boat is being considered a total loss.
