Inter Miami CF Hosts Inaugural Book Fair presented by Gallagher

As part of a landmark multiyear partnership, Inter Miami CF and Gallagher, in a joint effort with Scholastic Book Fairs, hosted the inaugural Inter Miami CF Book Fair presented by Gallagher on Tuesday and Wednesday at Oriole Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale.

First team players Drake Callender and Victor Ulloa participated in the Club’s literacy initiative by helping the students at Oriole Elementary School select books that were gifted by the Club and Gallagher to help support Inter Miami and Gallagher’s mutual commitment to education. Over 1,160 books were committed to this Literacy initiative.

Over 580 children enrolled in the school were given the chance to attend and select two books, at no cost to the students, school, or families. Oriole Elementary School will also receive Scholastic Dollars, proceeds to support the school with supplies, books, among other needs.

Inter Miami CF stands by its commitment to help reinforce and support the education of the children of South Florida. Reading just 20 minutes a day will expose children to about 1.8 million words a year and will help raise standardized test scores. The Club and Gallagher hope that by teaming up with Scholastic Book Fairs, this program helps to bring awareness to the importance of Literacy in youth.

“I think the Club did an outstanding job reaching out to a local school in the community, where we play really close to home. It felt awesome seeing the kids smile and happy when they got their books. It was really, really fun to be part of,” said Ulloa.

“It felt great to participate in this literacy event. I think it’s something that I align with because growing up I personally had a stutter. So, being able to be a part of something where kids can get books that will help them with their comprehension and literacy is great,” added Callender.

“I think that seeing the players working with the kids was a great opportunity,” said Oriole Elementary School principal Sheneka Blue. “It was a great opportunity for [the students] to see that the people they see on TV are real and are regular people just like them. They’re people who had dreams, worked hard for those dreams and achieved their goals. That is one of the greatest things for our scholars to have the opportunity to see.”
