MIAMI – City officials have deemed a Miami apartment building unsafe to live in, a sudden shock to the people who reside there.

Residents were informed Monday that they must evacuate and were given time to collect items from their homes.

The building is located at 5050 Northwest 7th Street.

On Tuesday morning, residents were still seen removing items from their units, putting whatever they could manage to grab into their vehicles.

It’s still unclear why the apartment building was deemed to be unsafe, but one resident told Local 10 News reporter Annaliese Garcia that she believes it has to do with the columns under the building.

Officials from the City of Miami said they are actively working to help find temporary housing to those who need it.

As of Tuesday morning, city officials were still assessing the total number of residents that needed to be relocated.
