MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were stabbed and a 15-month-old girl was killed by her mother Monday night in northwest Miami-Dade County, authorities said.

The incident was reported at a home near the intersection of Northwest 99th Street and 30th Avenue.

Police said they received multiple calls before 9 p.m. from inside the home and from a neighbor.

 

According to authorities, the suspect killed her 15-month-old daughter and stabbed her 16-year-old daughter and her 38-year-old husband.

Police said they do not yet know how the toddler was killed.

“We’re waiting for the medical examiner’s office to be able to provide us a cause of death for the 15-month-old,” Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.

According to police, the teenage daughter ran to a neighbor’s home for help. She and her stepfather were then airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Their conditions have not been released.

“We also learned that there were four additional children in the house, all under the age of 11, but they ran out of the house,” Zabaleta said.

As for the woman who police say stabbed her family, officers said they didn’t have to go far to find her.

“When officers attempted to enter the house, they were met in the foyer area with the subject,” Zabaleta said. “She was taken into custody without incident. She appeared to have injuries that seemed self-inflicted. She was transported to Jackson Trauma Center.”

The suspect’s identity has not yet been released and a motive behind the attack is unclear.
