Plantation Cop, Suspect Wounded in Shootout Outside Dania Beach Bass Pro Shops: DEA

A Plantation Police officer and a suspect were wounded in a shootout outside the Bass Pro Shops in Dania Beach Friday afternoon, officials said.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Bass Pro at 200 Gulfstream Way.

Officials with the Drug Enforcement Administration said the officer was part of a Broward Sheriff’s Office drug task force that was involved in an arrest operation with the DEA at the location.

During the arrest, one of the suspects fired at officers who returned fire.

Both the officer and suspect were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

Footage showed several officers in the parking lot surrounding a couple of parked cars that had their doors open, with evidence markers all over the ground.

Witnesses who were in the area said they heard at least five or six gunshots.

“They heard five, six shots and a few minutes later we heard a whole slew of cop cars and ambulances going down by Bass Pro Shop,” Mark Behrens said.

No other information was immediately known.
