Two men were taken into custody Monday following an incident in Miami-Dade County that led to a dog being shot by police, authorities confirmed.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Argemis Colome confirmed that one officer shot a dog in the 9300 block of Southwest 34th Street.

The dog survived and Animal Services was called to the scene, he said.

According to Colome, officers were conducting an investigation in the area when they began to run after a suspect.

He said the suspect released his pit bull and an officer shot the dog.

The suspect then ran inside a home, Colome said.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area before entering the house, where they took the suspect and another man into custody.

Colome said the suspects and officers were not injured during the incident.

No other details were immediately released.
