Police respond to house fire, shooting in southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police said shots were reportedly fired at a home that caught fire Friday morning in southwest Miami-Dade.

The incident occurred in the area of Southwest 107th Avenue and Southwest 150th Terrace.

Two cars, a red Mercedes-Benz and a gray Honda Accord, erupted in flames overnight just moments after witnesses reported hearing gunshots.

Now arson investigators are trying to figure out if this was intentional, and if so, who carried this out and why.

Local 10 News obtained video of those flames from earlier in the morning, which spread to the house.

“The flames from the vehicles spread to the residence. While that was going on, there were also reports of shots fired in this area,” Detective Angel Rodriguez said.

The video not only shows the intensity of that fire, but you can also hear something popping as the two car went up in flames.

According to some preliminary information from police, we’re told all of this happened while those cars were parked underneath a car port outside of the home.

Gwen Swan, who lives next door, told Local 10 News that she heard two gunshots. She said the flames came close to torching her own cars.

“Very nervous! I was very nervous, because I’m in between my father here and the fire going and trying to get out,” she said.

Both police and firefighters responded to the scene.

The fire has since been extinguished, leaving heavy damage behind. Police confirmed that bullet casings were found in the front yard of the property.

No injuries were reported.

Neighbors are now left wondering whether the fire was intentional.

“You know what? I could draw a lot of conclusions to that, OK. But I don’t know,” Swan said. “If I had saw something, then I could say that, OK? But I could not see specifically who, what and when. I can’t say that.”

Anyone with further information about the fire and shooting are asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
