Kayak is venturing deeper into hospitality technology with its first hotel in Miami Beach.

The boutique hotel, at 2216 Park Ave., is set to open in April, according to a statement from the travel search engine platform. The Stamford, Connecticut-based company partnered with hotel brand and management company Life House on the property.

County records show that the building Kayak Miami Beach will occupy has 51 rooms. It is owned by U.K.-based Henley, which purchased the property in 2018 for $20 million. It was previously the Eurostars Vintro Hotel.

With its first hotel, Kayak hopes to incorporate new accommodation technology it is developing. That includes back-end software, still in early development, that features cloud-based property management systems, wireless lock and access controls, and distribution channel management. Kayak Miami Beach will serve as a testing ground for some of the new tech.

Kayak said it will incorporate pricing insights from its online platform to help properly price the hotel.

By testing its technology in Miami Beach, the company hopes it will eventually be able to give other independent hotel operators access to its platforms.

“We see a big opportunity to apply our audience and technology to the accommodations space to level the playing field for independent hotels,” Kayak CEO Steve Hafner said in a statement. “Our Miami Beach property will serve as our hotel design lab, and deepen our knowledge of hospitality and showcase our growing capabilities.”

Layla, a rooftop restaurant, bar and lounge, will open within Kayak Miami Beach at launch. The restaurant will serve Middle Eastern cuisine.

While Kayak Miami Beach may be the platform’s first hotel, the company said it is exploring options for hotels elsewhere in the country.
