MIAMI – Three people were injured during a shooting on Thursday afternoon in Miami. Two were shot and one was grazed by a bullet, police said.

A shootout between people in a white car and a dark sedan spanned several blocks, eventually going through the valet area of the Casino Miami Jai-Alai at 3500 NW 37th Ave. One person in a white vehicle was shot and the passenger was injured. A bystander outside of the casino was also shot.

All are expected to be OK.

Heavily armed officers rushed inside the Casino Miami Jai-Alai, where gamblers were told to evacuate.

Detectives and Miami Fire Rescue personnel flooded an area on 35th Street between 36th and 37th avenues. Paramedics rushed the victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Officers who were wearing bulletproof vests talked to several witnesses outside of the crime scene tape. Officers also closed off both eastbound and westbound traffic on Okeechobee Road at Northwest 36th Street.

Detectives said the shooting first started at Northwest 49th Avenue and 32nd Street. Witnesses said the people in these cars were shooting at each other the entire way. When the shooters ended up in the casino’s valet area, there were Miami-Dade Police Department officers training in the parking lot.

At first, the police officers thought that they were being shot at and they called for backup. A witness said she started recording after she heard several gunshots being fired. The white sedan rolled in reverse, as if it was in neutral, and struck a pole and a stop sign.

Miami-Dade police are working to locate all of those involved in the shooting.
